The Pulpit Rock is probably the best known tourist attraction in Rogaland. The plateau is located in Forsand municipality on the northern side of Lysefjord. It towers 604 metres above sea level. Approximately 80,000 people visit Preikestolen during the four summer months. From the plateau there is a magnificent view of Lysefjord and the surrounding mountain scenery. It normally takes between 3 and 4 hours to walk along the path from the car park at the youth hostel and back again. The walk from the youth hostel is about 6 km long with a difference in height of 330 metres. Stout footwear is recommended. The path is not suitable for wheelchairs or childrens' buggies. |
